Terry Oakley

A Poem by Terry Oakley

Terry Oakley is retired and active. He is married and have three daughters and three grandchildren and lives in Leighton Buzzard, UK, but was born and brought up in the Northeast of England near Newcastle. Terry loves gardening, singing, writing, reading (especially science fiction), and drinking wine. He considers himself to be a radical Christian, open to wherever truth leads.

Let it be...

Let the shape of the things you make
be sculptures of health and wholeness,
or the subject matter of your hands
will be deadly destructiveness.

Let the sound of your voice
make music in praise of pure grace.
or the cacophony of your chords
will will deafen you to love's embrace.

Let the words you express
be poetry that promotes peace
or the language of your lives
will make wars that never cease.

Let the manner of your movements
be a graceful and gentle dance
or the violence of your presence
will destabilise life's balance.

Let your tending of the ground
create a garden for good seeds
or the havoc you wreak on earth
will make a poisoned patch of weeds.
